Our Committees

AIA Cleveland's Committees are the foundations from which the chapter positions itself in the field of architecture, whether through discussion, advocacy, policy making and development, or other endeavors. Committees initiate the majority of the chapter’s programs, and are the main avenue for direct involvement with AIA Cleveland.

OUR COMMITTEES

Historic Resources The mission of the AIA Cleveland’s Historic Resources Committee (HRC) is to promote, advance and advocate for the preservation of Northeast Ohio’s architectural heritage among AIA members, allied organizations, and the public. GOALS - To serve the needs of the profession and the public in preservation advocacy and education. - To advise AIA Cleveland’s Executive Board on matters related to historic districts and landmarks. - To offer expertise in historic architecture to AIA Members, allied preservation organizations and the public. - To promote the contributions of historic preservation to the quality of the built environment. - To maintain, on behalf of AIA Cleveland and in cooperation with the Early Settlers Association and the Western Reserve Historical Society, a list of nominees for the Cleveland Landmarks Commission according to the terms of the Cleveland Landmarks Ordinance. - To uphold and promote a high standard for historic preservation within AIA Cleveland, the profession and the public (and within Design Review Committees and Landmark Commissions.) - To recognize outstanding practice and patronage in the field of historic preservation. Historic Resources

Programming Foster collegiality and work as a team across firms to create the programming for AIA Cleveland! Events will include both educational and inspiring programming focused on design issues. Elevate the role of architect by exposing the Cleveland community to what we do as architects. 2015 events included design lectures, tours of award-winning projects and workshops. Get involved! Programming

Foster collegiality and work as a team across firms to create the programming for AIA Cleveland! Events will include both educational and inspiring programming focused on design issues. Elevate the role of architect by exposing the Cleveland community to what we do as architects. 2015 events included design lectures, tours of award-winning projects and workshops. Get involved!

Networking and Camaraderie Fostering collegiality among AIA Members, the local architectural community and various related design communities (graphic design, interior design, etc…)  is a critical piece of creating and sustaining a vibrant design community. Many of AIA Cleveland’s events are created in partnership with the various other professional design associations and partner organizations. Every month, AIA Cleveland organizes #DESIGNHAPPY; Cleveland’s monthly happy hour for the world of design. More than 10 (and growing) design organizations participate in the happy hour. The happy hours are open to all members, non-members, students, guests and design professionals over the age of 21 years!             Meeting Times: Third Friday (every month) 5:30pm-8:00pm Location: Location rotates monthly Committee Chair: Lauren Konopka, Assoc. Women In Architecture Women in Architecture (WIA) Committee empowers and promotes women within the architecture profession through advocacy, community outreach, professional development and mentorship. As a forum that educates, celebrates and inspires, WIA Committee develops engaging programming to elevate the visibility and support of women in architecture in Cleveland.
